Does slow cooking dried Reishi overnight destroy their vitamins?

Asked 2 years ago

I've been told that I need to cook my dried Reishi in order to get the best benefits, so I have started leaving them overnight in a slow cooker. I reasoned that it may work the same as a tea and that the longer I simmer the Reishi for, the stronger the effects. Now I am starting to worry if I am diminishing the results by cooking them for too long. Is this the case? Is there an optimal time that they should cook for?

Yes, you should cook your dried Reishi for up to 24 hours in a slow cooker to get the best benefit. If you want to use Reishi as a tea then you don't necessarily have to boil for 24 hours. Boiling fresh reishi mushrooms for half an hour should be okay to extract all the medicinal compounds, while dried reishi will need to be boiled for at least an hour or two.
