REISHI
Ganoderma lucidum, aka Reishi, has long been cherished in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its ability to ‘prolong life’ and so prevent/ delay ageing. This may be due to the fact Reishi mushrooms contain two of the most powerful antioxidants, namely ergothioneine and reduced glutathione, thus providing protection from oxidative damage (e.g. sun damage), and consequently preventing premature ageing, especially of the skin.
Reishi has also been shown to help alleviate inflammation throughout the body, which may help calm and soothe any skin irritation and associated redness.
The polysaccharides in the Reishi retain moisture and so provide humectant and deeply hydrating support. In this way, they repair and reinforce the moisture barrier, which may help plump the skin and thus reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Certain compounds in Reishi inhibit a melanin-producing enzyme called tyrosinase, which may then help reduce skin pigmentation and discoloration associated with scarring.
SHAGGY MANE
Like Reishi, Shaggy Mane is rich in ergothioneine (ETT), a powerful antioxidant compound shown to have anti-ageing and Immune boosting effects.
Shaggy Mane also displays analgesic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, which may help support and calm irritated, problem skin.
SNOW FUNGUS
Snow Fungus is famed for its skin-supporting qualities, including moisturizing, firming, soothing and brightening the skin. These benefits may be attributed to the following properties:
This moisture-loving mushroom can hold and store up to 500 times its weight in water, thereby drawing fluid deep into the skin, allowing for better hydration & moisturization. This not only helps to alleviate and prevent dryness of the skin but may also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Collagen is a key anti-ageing, connective tissue compound, which keeps the skin firm and elastic. Snow Fungus is rich in collagen and induces collagen production, thus maintaining the skin’s firmness and strength.
Snow fungus has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help support the wound-healing process and restore balance when the skin is damaged or irritated.
Snow fungus has been shown to help lighten and brighten the skin due to its potent ability to inhibit melanin production, which is responsible for freckles, scars, and uneven skin pigmentation.
CBD
In addition to providing potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatorily support, CBD is known to activate and so help regulate the functioning of the Endocannabinoid system in the skin, referred to as the Cutaneous Endocannabinoid system.
By aiding this system, CBD may support balanced immunity and stability of the skin cells, which ultimately promotes healthy functioning of the skin, whilst reducing the risk of developing inflammation & irritation or any other skin-damaging issues that may be associated with accelerated skin ageing.
Vitamin C
Topical vitamin C is a science-backed, dermatologist-favorite ingredient that may help slow early skin aging, prevent sun damage, and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and acne. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, meaning it fights harmful free radicals (toxins) that come in contact with your skin from external sources like air pollution, or from the body as a result of normal processes like your metabolism. Free radicals can damage the skin, and applying topical vitamin C can combat free radio also and may improve the skin’s overall appearance.
