Polymyalgia Rheumatica is an age-related condition (more prevalent in the senior community) affecting 1 in every 1200 persons in the UK. Although there are OTC medications used to manage symptoms associated with this health condition, some of these medications may lead to dependence and expose you to severe side effects.
Some studies suggest that CBD may potentially manage symptoms associated with PMR, such as pain, stiffness, and inflammation. In addition, it may also improve the ability of your body to use more of its naturally occurring cannabinoids produced by your endocannabinoid system(ECS).
Anti-inflammatory
Some researchers suggest that CBD may bind to the endocannabinoid system in your body. The interactions may help control the levels of pain hormones such as endorphins, DHEA, etc., reducing the feelings of pain and inflammation.
Analgesic
Muscle stiffness is another symptom associated with PMR, which may limit your range of motion.
Some studies suggest the non-psychoactive compounds may bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors in your brain. The interactions may help manage the relaxing levels in your body, leading to muscle relaxation.
THC Content
THC is a psychoactive compound, meaning it may leave you with intoxication effects. However, a combination of small THC content (the legal THC limit in the UK is 0.2%) with CBD may create an entourage effect, improving the efficiency of CBD in managing PMR. However, consuming high volumes of THC may worsen the symptoms.
Remember:
If you are under any medications, you should talk to your physician to learn about any interaction that may occur.
