Can CBD Gummies Cause Anxiety?

The answer to this question depends on the type and quality of your extract. It's important to understand that hemp CBD supplements can contain THC. Since the intoxicating cannabinoid is known to cause anxiety and paranoia, any panic attacks or similar symptoms are a huge red flag.

Full-spectrum CBD gummies could contain up to 0.3% THC. Broad-spectrum - although often advertised as "zero THC" - still contains minimal trace amounts. Isolate is the only option that should contain no THC.

Emphasis on "should."

Why Would CBD Gummies Increase Anxiety?

Although CBD might cause side effects, anxiety isn't one of them. If anything, it can lead to fatigue and sedation.

There are two reasons why CBD gummies would raise anxiety:

  • They contain full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD
  • Poor quality or mislabeled CBD

When the FDA examined CBD, they noticed that 70% of the products tested were mislabeled. It's also not uncommon for "hot hemp" (industrial hemp with THC higher than 0.3%) to slip through the cracks.

In the End

Don't let a few bad apples ruin the bunch. If your CBD gummies cause anxiety, immediately discontinue use and try another brand. Keep in mind to avoid full-spectrum CBD gummies and check third-party test results to see if any CBD product contains THC traces.
