Can CBD oil reduce inflammation in the liver?
Asked 2 years ago
I have been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis which causes inflammation of the liver, and I am wondering if CBD oil is effective in reducing liver inflammation.

There is some suggestion that CBD can be helpful in reducing damage to the liver in specific types of situations. The research was done on alcoholics who had fatty livers as a result of chronic drinking. In general, CBD is purported to help reduce inflammation in the body.
However, animal research shows that CBD can have negative effects on the liver in very high doses. The issue is that there is no human research so the definition of a 'very high dose' is unclear.
Autoimmune hepatitis usually relapses and remits and is best controlled with a combination of disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs and/or prednisone according to most research. Given the research on CBD is not developed in this area, consulting your treating clinician before adding it to your regimen is essential.
