How does CBD help the thyroid after a thyroidectomy?
Asked 3 years ago
I've recently had my entire thyroid removed and am going to start thyroid hormone replacement medication soon. I've heard that CBD oil can be good for thyroid health with conditions like Hashimoto's disease and Hypothyroidism, but my thyroid condition was hypERthyroidism. Can CBD oil help with this type of thyroid disease after having a thyroidectomy?

Some researchers believe that the benefit of CBD oil for thyroid health is due to the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) in the thyroid gland. They believe that CBD's role in binding to these receptors can help the thyroid regulate proper hormone release better. However, there is little to no research that proves this topic, as well as the topic of using CBD after a thyroidectomy.
What CBD may benefit though, in terms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, is that it seems to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties that may assist with an inflamed thyroid. However, caution must be exercised as CBD may interact negatively with many prescription medications, and so you should always consult a doctor beforehand.

Experts have claimed that cannabinoid receptors are beneficial to heal thyroid nodules and hence, it can be said that CBD makes a positive impact in Thyroid related issues. Also, CBD's ability to reduce inflammation helps in treating the thyroid. Assuming you take medicines after thyroidectomy, CBD might not gel well with the medications. Therefore, get in touch with a doctor before taking both medications and CBD simultaneously.
