Does CBD oil affect thyroid hormones?
Asked 3 years ago
More simply, can CBD oil be good for thyroid health? I'm interested in what effect CBD oil would have on thyroid hormone production because that would potentially indicate whether or not CBD oil can help hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, which are opposite ends of the thyroid hormone production spectrum. And, on that topic, would CBD oil and thyroid medication taken together be more beneficial or less beneficial?

There is very limited research on how CBD oil affects thyroid hormones directly. Some researchers suggest that CBD may interact with cannabinoid receptors in the thyroid and help the thyroid regulate hormone production better. If this is true, then it might not be too far-fetched to believe that CBD can help hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism both.
However, to reiterate, there is limited research on this. A more believable scenario is that the other aspects of CBD, namely its apparent anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and analgesic, might contribute to the more holistic treatment of thyroid conditions.
As for CBD oil and thyroid medications together, you should always be wary of mixing CBD oil and any medications as it is known to interact negatively with many drugs.

There are very limited studies on the effect of CBD on the thyroid. Most studies tend to look more at the positive impact because CBD has very few side effects; concluded studies suggest that CBD may help with the regulation of thyroid activities. The major negative impact that has been reported is on drug interactions that may arise when cbd is taken together with thyroid medications.
