Not all CBD is created equal, and one of the ways to ensure that you are buying safe, pure, and high-quality CBD products is by looking at third-party lab results. So, what is a CBD lab test, and how do you find a report? Read along to learn more.
What is a CBD lab test?
Although CBD (with 0.2 maximum THC) is legal in the UK, the CBD industry operates in an unregulated space. As such, there’s no oversight on quality or content control on most CBD products found in the general market.
Until the required regulations are passed, consumers rely on third-party testing to ensure that they are buying pure, safe, and high-quality CBD products. By checking at a third-party report, consumers can identify the content in the CBD product being sold to ensure that it doesn’t contain harmful ingredients.
How to find CBD lab report
Now that you know what CBD lab test is, let’s look at how to read a CBD lab report.
1. Read the report on your product
Different brands put the CBD report in different places on the product. However, you can find the report in one of these places:
- A screenshot of the results on the product page
- A clickable link on the product page
- Scannable QR code (using your phone) on the product
If you have challenges finding the lab results, contact the brand for help.
2. Look at the cannabinoid profile
Before buying any CBD product, you need to know the amount of CBD and THC available in the product.
When checking the CBD amount, I recommend looking at the concentration rather than the weight, and it is expressed as mg/mL. On the other hand, when checking the amount of THC, looking at the percent by weight is ideal. The maximum legal THC content in a full-spectrum CBD product in the UK is 0.2%.
3. Check for contaminants
Checking the amount of THC and CBD in a specific product is critical, but not everything. You also need to check the report to ensure that the product is free from contaminants and toxins like pesticides, mold, mildew, etc. Some low-quality CBD products contain heavy metals or pathogens that can be harmful to your health, so be sure to check this out as well.
Contact the brand if anything is unclear
I cannot say enough about the importance of the CBD lab test. However, the most critical of all is that it gives the user the confidence that they are receiving genuine information about a specific product. If you can’t understand the CBD report, contact the company to clarify the information before buying it.
