Can I take Reishi mushroom if I have an autoimmune disease?
Asked 3 years ago
Reishi mushrooms seem to have so many medical advantages, and can even be used by cancer patients on chemotherapy. As someone with an autoimmune disease, however, I am always wary of taking anything that may change anything within my immune system. I do want to try a Reishi supplement for its vast health benefits though. Is it safe to take if I have an autoimmune disease, and would it even be beneficial?

It is not 100% safe. Although there is limited study on this, there are chances that Reishi Mushroom may worsen symptoms in people taking immunosuppressant medications to treat autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, or psoriasis, because of its ability to boost immune system response. If you are suffering from any auto-immune conditions, you should see a doctor before taking Reishi. I

I have seen several and articles and studies published in The US Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health claiming Reishi is an immunomodulator. Antiinflammatory and Immunomodulating Properties of Fungal Metabolites. The study lists various mushrooms including Reishi. Other articles online show Reishi can be beneficial for RA also.

Agreed. I take is as part of my therapy for 2 AI conditions, and it helps enormously. Also Turkey Tail and of course, full spectrum CBD oil. All of those are important to have as usda certified organic products as they all draw toxins systemically into the plant. If using for auto immune, you don't need to add to your chemical load as your immune system is already confused enough to attack "self." Another help is Dr. Longo's fasting program. Over time, it can reset the immune system. He calls it "rejuvinating the immune system."
