How do supplements strengthen the immune system during winter?

My girlfriend recommended I take some supplements during winter, as my immunity always drops when the temperatures drop...I want to know more about this, though; how can supplements boost my immunity? And also, which ones should I take?

Supplements like vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc, may help to boost your immune system during winter. While vitamin C promotes the production of white blood cells (WBCs) and antibodies, vitamin D helps control inflammation and limit infection. Zinc supports the production of WBCs and also has antiviral properties that may help to reduce the severity and duration of colds.
