Are Full-Spectrum Products Legal Under the New UK Law?
The maximum legal THC content in the UK is 0.2 percent, meaning any product with more than that amount of THC is illegal under the new UK law.
Updated April 14, 2023.
Although CBD has been used for recreational and functional purposes for many years, full legalisation of all CBD products and plants in the UK has not yet been achieved, but it might not be too far off due to the World Health Organisation's recommendation that pure CBD (not containing more than 0.2% of delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol) should not be scheduled within the International Drug Control Conventions.
As you may know, CBD is available in 3 different forms: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate.
The significant difference between the three is as follows:
In full-spectrum CBD - all of the available cannabinoids in a cannabis plant are retained, including THC.
In broad-spectrum CBD - during processing, all of the cannabinoids are retained except THC.
CBD isolate - all of the naturally occurring cannabinoids in a cannabis plant are isolated except the CBD.
Each of these forms has rules and regulations regarding their distribution and consumption. The following article discusses what you need to know about full-spectrum products under the new UK law.
Understanding the new UK law regarding full-spectrum products
As discussed earlier, a full-spectrum product contains a wide range of natural cannabinoids, including THC and CBN.
You may know that CBD as a cannabinoid is a legal substance in the UK as it doesn't have psychotropic properties. The problem arises when other cannabinoids are put into consideration.
Both THC and CBN are controlled compounds in the UK. Under the law, each of the products must contain a THC level of less than 0.2%; otherwise, it will be categorized under illegal drugs.
With that said, you have to be extra cautious when purchasing full spectrum to ensure you are getting legal CBD products to avoid legal issues.
Ways to ensure you are purchasing a legal full-spectrum product
- Buy from a reputable seller
- Go through the customers' feedback to find out whether the brand can satisfy your needs.
- Understand the lab results and find out your product's contents to see whether they are within the permitted limit.
