The short answer to this question is no. Getting CBD with THC in it is definitely not better for anxiety than if THC was absent. In fact, almost exactly the opposite is true, but unfortunately, it is more complicated than that.

THC and Anxiety

The most common consensus is that if you are the kind of person to get anxious from cannabis, it's probably the THC causing it. The scientific data shows that consumption of unrefined cannabis, or "street cannabis," can be attributed to feelings of anxiety and addiction. Street cannabis is purchased by those who want to experience the psychoactive properties of THC and thus contains almost no CBD.

Interactions Between Cannabinoids

Studies have shown that CBD has inherent anxiolytic and antipsychotic properties and can drastically inhibit the adverse effects that THC causes on the brain. Although research is still in its infancy on the long-term effects of these cannabinoids, the science is pretty clear on this specific point.

The Conclusion

This means that if you're predisposed to have anxiety as a result of cannabis products, elevated levels of THC could actually exacerbate the problem. It's unlikely that CBD on its own would cause feelings of anxiety, but then again, everyone is different.

The most important thing to remember is that your body will react differently to anyone else's. There are many who don't suffer feelings of anxiety from THC, and there are those who do feel anxiety from CBD specifically. However, using THC to combat anxiety caused by CBD is definitely not a viable strategy, whereas using CBD to combat the feelings of anxiety caused by THC is a strategy backed by scientific evidence.
