What are the benefits and side effects of the Chaga mushroom?
Asked 3 years ago
Are Chaga Mushrooms naturally edible and what beneficial effects can I expect when taking them? Are there dangerous side effects from Chaga mushroom extract? I also want to know how they stack up in terms of toxicity by quantity. More specifically, is there an optimal amount of this mushroom, or how much Chaga is too much?

Chaga mushrooms are often called a nutrient-dense superfood with many health benefits, though it does come with some potential side effects as well. Although research is still in its infancy, so you should take all of the proposed claims with a grain of salt.
Some of the most important supposed benefits of Chaga include:
- Anti-oxidant properties
- Lowering cholesterol
- Lowering blood pressure
- Immune support
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Lowering blood sugar
Unfortunately, the long-term safety of Chaga mushroom and its side effects are still not widely known, but some things to watch out for include:
- The supposed blood-sugar control could be dangerous for people with insulin problems, such as diabetes.
- The lowering of blood pressure could cause blood-clotting problems, which could be dangerous for people with bleeding disorders.
- Overdose on Chaga mushroom or extract could negatively affect liver toxicity.
