Why is THC not recommended for people with anxiety?
Asked 4 years ago
I would think that it's the THC component that helps to bring relief, yet it seems that most people don't agree with it. Why don't people use THC for anxiety?

There is some evidence that low doses of THC might help alleviate anxiety. Generally THC is thought to trigger the release of dorpalmine in the brain which gives a feeling of euphoria and excitement. This can heighten anxiety.
CBD also interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, and it can promote a feeling of calm, relaxation, and balance. Opinions differ about these two components found in the cannabis plant, and research is not yet conclusive.
However, if you're in the UK, chosing between CBD and THC isn't something you have to deliberate over. Since April 2021, you can't get cannabis products containing more than an insignificant amount of THC. Unless you have a doctor's prescription for medican cannabis.

Cannabis is made up of two components: CBD and THC. CBD is the component used to relieve medical disorders, while THC is the psychoactive component that causes the high feeling in cannabis.
Experts say that CBD with some degree of THC can reduce mental disorders including anxiety; although some individuals who take CBD and THC experience increased anxiety. According to studies, the effects of THC on anxiety depends on individuals. In some studies, individuals who took high CBD with high THC experienced reduced anxiety. Others who took the same quantity of CBD and THC experienced increased anxiety, and needed a low quantity of THC to reduce anxiety; while some did not notice any effect at all.
Drug enforcement agencies in many countries warn that a person suffering from anxiety should stay away from THC. Experts are not sure if cannabis actually stimulates anxiety, or if persons with anxiety disorders just enjoy using cannabis more.
More research needs to be done before cannabis can be recommended as a remedy for anxiety. THC (especially in high amounts) can increase anxiety in some individuals. If you are suffering from anxiety, I will advise you to use the following methods for anxiety instead. These methods include reducing alcohol and caffeine intake, eating healthy and engaging in physical activity, seeing a psychologist for counselling etc. You should also see a doctor as he may be able to prescribe anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications for you.
