Are there drug-drug interactions between CBD oil and Amitriptyline and what are the effects?
Asked 3 years ago
It seems like there's a lot of debate about whether cannabis will interact with certain antidepressants like Amitriptyline and not others. Something about inhibitors and stimulants. I want to know if I can take CBD oil or tablets with Amitriptyline.

There are interactions between CBD oil and most drugs, especially antidepressants like Amitriptyline. Taking them in conjunction with each other means they have to compete for metabolism in the liver, which could lead to an increase in the potential side effects experienced with Amitriptyline, such as:
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Headaches
- Fatigue

CBD can interact negatively with certain drugs, and the effect of taking CBD with prescription medication can vary from person to person. When there is a negative interaction CBD could amplify the side effects of Amitriptyline, such as nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness. Rather talk to your doctor before trying any new supplement while on Amitriptyline.
