Is this possible, and if so, how does it work?

Yes, having an anxiety attack or just general anxiety can cause light sensitivity to eyes. When you are fighting anxiety, your eyes tend to prepare to fight or get away from the situation, causing eye tension, light sensitivity, or other similar issues. With such eye issues, you might end up getting long-term vision problems unless you treat it.
