What are the differences between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, distillate, and isolate CBD?

Asked 3 years ago

I am under the impression that full-spectrum has more CBD than broad-spectrum and that the distillate and isolate CBD contains the least. How true is this, and what are the differences between these types of products?

The main difference between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum or isolates is in the compounds they contain. Full-spectrum contain other cannabinoids in addition to CBD. It also contains THC, but in a very small amount which is about 0.3%. Broad-spectrum or distillate also contains other additional compounds, but it is free from THC or contains THC in very trace amounts. CBD isolates are the pure form of CBD with no additional cannabinoid.

Full-spectrum CBD is seen by experts as the most potent of the three because it gives the full entourage benefits of other cannabinoids (including THC). Experts believe that a well extracted full-spectrum CBD product can act as an antioxidant, antidepressant, anti-anxiety, analgesic and as anti-inflammatory substance.

Broad-spectrum CBD or distillate also have the entourage benefits just like full-spectrum CBD. It may be very helpful if you are trying to avoid THC, as a very low amount of THC in full-spectrum can appear in blood tests.

While Isolate does not have the entourage benefits like full-spectrum or broad-spectrum, it can help you determine whether CBD alone is enough to ease your medical condition. This is suitable for persons who will want to avoid the effect of THC and other additional cannabinoids.

Please note that full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and isolates are terms that are often misused by some manufacturers. Before you trust anything you see on a label, you should cross-check with an independent laboratory test result to ascertain the accuracy of what is on the label. There is some evidence that full spectrum is the most potent CBD products, followed by broad-spectrum, before isolates but more research needs to be conducted. If you're looking to try CBD for the first time, you should see a doctor first.
