Can fidgeting help relieve anxiety?

It is a natural response for me to fidget a lot when I am feeling anxious. I was curious as to whether this actually helped relieve anxiety, or if it is just a symptom?

Fidgeting encourages various parts of the brain to improve attention, allowing you to feel better under pressure or in anxious situations.
